Phantom Blade Zero early weapons: where to get them
Find Jagged Steel, Dread Axe and Scarlet Wraithblade in the opening area, and understand what to check before refunding weapon upgrades.
Which early rewards are worth knowing about?
The first useful distinction is main weapons versus Phantom Edges. Your main weapons determine the moves you use repeatedly; Phantom Edges add another tool and can also remove certain exploration barriers. A weapon being found later does not by itself make it the right answer to every fight.
This is an acquisition guide checked on October 29, 2026, using the official weapon introduction and the linked launch guides. It is not a tested damage ranking.
| Equipment | How to obtain it | Why keep track of it? |
|---|---|---|
| Jagged Steel | Defeat the Jagged Steel boss on the route before the outpost | An early main-weapon reward you meet while progressing |
| Dread Axe | Defeat Peng Meng in the outpost sequence | A Phantom Edge; useful to revisit breakable obstructions |
| Scarlet Wraithblade | Defeat Hua beneath the Sha-Chi Tower | A main weapon whose combinations create flowers that hinder enemies |
Reward names and boss associations are listed in Game8’s boss index; the route is described in the Weeping Creek walkthrough. Our area checklist puts those stops in context without presenting them as a complete collection route.
Should I detour for Scarlet Wraithblade immediately?
Only if you want the optional fight now. The PlayStation article describes its flower-producing combinations and their slowing effect. That is a useful reason to try it, but it is not evidence that every beginner should abandon their current weapon.
Hua guards it in an arena beneath the tower. Her own delayed flowers and follow-up attacks can punish long commitments. Read the Hua mechanics guide before making repeated attempts with the same approach.
How can I compare weapons without a tier list?
Use the same familiar encounter and change one thing at a time. Can you stop attacking before the retaliation? Can you reach the target without whiffing? Does switching between your two weapons feel predictable? These checks answer a more useful early question than an unexplained letter grade.
The beginner guide explains why switching also matters for Sha-Chi. Learn the second weapon’s recovery as well as its opening move.
Can upgrade materials be refunded freely?
Do not assume every refund is free. The launch systems guide reports that higher-level weapon refunds consume reforging items, and that accessory and healing upgrades do not follow the same refund rules. Read the actual cost on the confirmation screen before committing.
For a new weapon, first test the move sequence in a manageable fight. If the handling suits you, move materials deliberately. This avoids spending an item just to discover that the new weapon’s timing does not fit how you play.
