FAQ

What can you build in Monster Hunter Outlanders?
Field facilities such as the Catapult, the Wind Platform and the Zip Line, using materials you gather. More facilities were promised in future updates.
What is Ecological Rank?
A progression level for the field. As your adventure advances, the Ecological Rank rises and the monsters on the map grow stronger.

How do you gather materials?

Outlanders adds crafting on top of hunting. Chop down trees and mine ore around Aesoland to collect the materials that building and item crafting need.

What can you build?

Press Build to spend materials on field facilities that help you get around:

Facility What it does
Catapult Launches Adventurers in a chosen direction to cover long distances fast
Wind Platform Lifts Adventurers into the air to reach higher ground
Zip Line Links distant or uneven points with a wire to cross rough terrain

More field facilities were promised in later updates. You can also craft items such as potions from gathered materials.

How does the world map work?

All kinds of monsters appear on the world map at the same time, so you can hunt them whenever you like instead of picking a quest first. As your adventure progresses, the field’s Ecological Rank rises and the monsters grow stronger.

What else is there to do between hunts?

The map is full of expeditions, short challenges you can try between hunts:

  • Zen Stone Balance — adjust the position and angle of stones to stack them to a target height.
  • Winged Treasure Hunt — tap when the circles line up to wear down a wyvern’s stamina.
  • Egg Heist Challenge — hide in the grass to avoid monsters and carry an egg to the goal.

What multiplayer activities are there?

  • Classic four-player hunts and a Gathering Hub to meet other players.
  • The Arena, plus team activities and high-difficulty quests against stronger monsters.
  • Adventurers’ Guilds, so groups of players can take part in activities together.

Expeditions are also a source of decorations for your gear — see combat basics. New to the game? Start with the beginner guide, and check the Buddies guide to see who builds alongside you.

These details come from the official closed beta guide and Tokyo Game Show presentation, and may change at launch on October 29, 2026.
