Ouyang Varen in Monster Hunter Outlanders: Weapon, Class and Skills

Who is Ouyang Varen in Monster Hunter Outlanders?

Ouyang Varen wields a sturdy lance with strong guard options and uses his shield to deflect attacks. According to the official description, certain skills build up Impetus, which he spends to power up his thrusts for much higher damage.

What does Ouyang Varen’s kit focus on?

• Strong guard, deflects attacks with his shield
• Certain skills build Impetus to empower his thrusts

These points come from the official character description. Exact skill names, numbers and upgrade paths will be added after we test Ouyang Varen in the live game.

What does the Assault class do?

Assault Adventurers are the damage dealers. The official site pairs Assault Adventurers with the Palico, which fights beside them to unleash explosive bursts of damage. Every party can mix classes, so you don’t need four of the same weapon to cover all three roles.

How do you get Ouyang Varen?

Named Adventurers are added to your roster through Recruitment, which uses Standard Contracts. Which recruitment pool Ouyang Varen appears in, and the rates, will be confirmed when the game launches on October 29, 2026. Pre-registration gives free Standard Contracts — see the codes page.

Which other Adventurers use the Lance?

Arkaya also uses the Lance. Your own Fated Adventurer can switch weapons freely. Compare every Adventurer on the Adventurer tier list.
