Phantom Blade Zero Peng Meng: guard and punish decisions
Diagnose empty Sha-Chi, unsafe approaches after the roar and interrupted retaliation against Peng Meng, then check the reward and Yu’er’s next task.
Why does a blocked attack still leave you vulnerable?
Separate ordinary strings from heavy special attacks before choosing to keep guarding. Gamersky’s Peng Meng account describes attacks that drain Sha-Chi heavily. Game8 warns about a grab after his roar. Neither supports treating held block as a complete solution.
| Where the attempt breaks down | Observe next time | Practice goal |
|---|---|---|
| Hit immediately after guarding | Remaining Sha-Chi and the preceding heavy attack | Preserve room to disengage instead of forcing retaliation |
| Caught while approaching after a roar | The actual follow-up | Skip that chase once and identify the next action |
| Interrupted during your response | Whether the boss was genuinely staggered | Commit only inside a recognized opening |

Should you farm an entirely different loadout?
Both launch guides discuss Jagged Steel’s bleed utility, so an existing early weapon is a reasonable starting point. We do not adopt their strongest-weapon labels or promise a fixed number of combos to trigger a status effect. Difficulty, upgrades and landed hits affect what you see.
Change one variable per attempt. First stop chasing after the roar; later try shortening your own attack sequence. Changing every equipment slot and every defensive habit at once makes the result difficult to interpret. Check the early weapon page for acquisition.
What should you do after winning?
Peng Meng lies on the story route beyond the outpost. Game8 identifies Dread Axe as his Phantom Edge reward. Read its actual controls before using it to investigate relevant obstructions.
Return to Yu’er at the outpost and check the herb-gathering conversation. That task has a later story deadline; see the Yu’er hand-in guide. The valley checklist reconnects the fight to your route.
