Separate The Hunt’s wagon encounter from the waterfall rematch, review chain hazards and follow-ups, and connect the reward to Crimson Forest.

Phantom Blade Zero The Hunt: wagon versus waterfall fight

Which encounter are you trying to beat?

Use the setting rather than an article’s phase number. Game8 distinguishes the wagon ambush from the Great Waterfall rematch. The rematch also changes phases internally. Equipment acquired later should not become a requirement for the wagon fight.

Setting Focus Distinction to keep
Story encounter aboard a wagon Chain sequences and attack cues Later equipment is not an opening-game prerequisite
Great Waterfall in the valley Arena hazards, aerial chains and pursuit A phase change is not a separate third encounter

Why are you still getting hit at long range?

Gamersky’s account and Game8 both describe substantial reach. Record the cue and your landing position rather than treating distance as the only defensive measurement.

Our suggested review starts with where damage occurred. If chains or the arena hazard hit you, reconsider movement. If you escaped the hazard and were immediately chased down, check whether you lost track of the boss. Healing as soon as you leave danger can turn a surviving follow-up into a surprise.

Is the tornado an invitation to attack?

Both guides warn about the tornado; Game8 also describes a follow-up lunge. Leave the hazardous space, then read the next action. “Move away from the tornado” is not evidence of a long damage window.

For a learning attempt, set one objective: observe the whole hazard sequence and what follows before choosing a punish. Review basic cues in the beginner guide. We do not supply an untested fixed button rhythm or adopt claims that random parry taps guarantee success.

What changes after the rematch?

Game8 lists Hunter’s Chain Sickle as the second encounter’s reward. Later traversal uses this tool. Read its controls and use the Crimson Forest planner to place yourself on the next route.

Before leaving the valley, review the missables checklist. For acquisition questions, see early weapons.

Checked October 30, 2026 against both launch guides. Retry checkpoints across difficulties have not been tested by GameNavi, so this page makes no phase-autosave guarantee.
