Who is Ryunosuke in Monster Hunter Outlanders?

Ryunosuke is a Long Sword fighter who snacks between swings: eating builds energy, and being well fed strengthens his Spirit Blade attacks. He is free, and he is a Fire support rather than a damage dealer.

How do you get Ryunosuke?

The permanent Adventure Rank Dash event in the Event Center pays out at Adventurer Ranks 10, 20 and 30. Ranks 20 and 30 each give one SR adventurer, Ryunosuke and Luxheart, alongside 40 Standard Contracts across the event. Gamerch does not say which rank gives which. Rewards must be claimed by hand once you reach a rank. Do not spend pulls hoping for him.

How does Ryunosuke’s kit work?

1. Normal attacks fill the Spirit Gauge. The combo is up to five slashes, and a moving slash fills it faster.
2. Skill 1 spends the gauge on a Spirit Blade combo. Its spinning slash raises the gauge level and adds a laceration hit. Keep using it to enter a gorging state: he eats while moving and the gauge refills on its own for a while. At full gauge he can use a finishing thrust.
3. Skill 2 is a drunken dodge. He drinks from his gourd to evade, then slashes; a successful evade raises the gauge level, and the chain ends in a stronger finisher at maximum.
4. Skill 3 cashes in a red gauge level for a thrust. While gorging with a red level and a full gauge it becomes a stronger version that grants energy.

His unique trait ties it together: holding all three kinds of hunger energy at once puts him in a “very full” state for 50 seconds, adding three laceration hits to his skills and speeding up the Spirit Blade combo.

What does Ryunosuke bring to a party?

The ultimate hands out a food box: every ally in range gets more Fire damage and immunity to status ailments for 10 seconds. Gamerch suggests it against monsters that rely on status attacks, and GameWith’s banner page pairs him with Midori, who also deals Fire damage.

The gap between “S overall” and “C for rerolls” is the point: he is worth building, not worth pulling for.
